One of my most beloved movies is the BBC miniseries,
North and South which is based on the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. It is like Austen meets Dickens in this movie about a southern woman coming to live in a northern mill town. I just got the book from the library and I am very excited to read it!
The movie and novel are set in 1851. The costumes are gorgeous without being outlandish. When I was traveling to Ashland we stopped at several thrift stores, at one of them I found a black hat that reminded me of Margaret Hale's hat in
North and South.

Once I came home and looked at pictures, though, I realized that the two hats are quite different. The color and material of the hat are the same, but my hat has a wider brim and a taller crown. So we'll see what I can end up doing with my hat.
